According to the report of the ICT PR department, in this meeting, the Iranian Communication Minister presented a comprehensive report regarding the current trend of Iran’s development and progress in economic, technical, and industrial areas, underscored Iran and Georgia’s historical and political relations, saying: “Iran and Georgia have always enjoyed positive and constructive relations, following their agenda for increasing peace and stability in the region and around the globe.”
The ICT Minister emphasized on the common cultural and historical points of interest of the two countries, and the impact of these common views regarding peace and stability, stating that: “In addition to these relations, Iran and Georgia have economic and commercial interactions, and also a Joint Economic Cooperation Commission, all of which extensively affect the existing bilateral relations.”
Vaezi recounted some of the achievements of the I.R. of Iran in the field of communication and information technology in the recent years, especially in the government of ‘wisdom and hope’, expressing that: “In Iran we have come to this important conclusion that ICT is the infrastructure and promoter of development, and facilitator of any activity in various areas; that being the reason why in the government of ‘wisdom and hope’ we stress so much on this technology, managing to achieve considerable progress in this area.”
Vaezi referred to the possibility of exchanging experiences between the two countries in the ICT sector, saying that: “We are interested in exchanging information and experience with Georgia regarding technology transfer, transit, optimum utilization of broad-band network, training and research, startup and implementation of e-governance.”
He included that: “Considering the interest of the I.R. of Iran in diversifying the incoming and outgoing gateways of the internet, we like to have Georgia as one of the transit routes of our country.”
In this visit, Georgia’s First Deputy Prime Minister also referred to importance of Iran’s role in Georgia’s development proceedings, saying that: “Transit of all sorts of goods and products, establishing rail transport infrastructures like railways, and other joint collaborations can positively impact the strengthening of our bilateral relations.”
Kvirikashvili expressed Georgia’s interest in expanding joint cooperation with Iran, adding that: “Georgia managed to join European Trade Union Confederation, something which creates a new capacity for Iran, to extend its commercial relations and establish a common market, while encouraging the private sector to invest in Georgia’s industry sector.”
He added: “To create the necessary attraction for foreign investment, Georgia has embarked on the establishment of free trade zones, awarding special opportunities and incentives, and removal of possible obstacles for investors from foreign countries, something which can be quite an opportunity for Iran’s private sector and also its investors.”
Georgia’s Economy and Sustainable Development Minister also mentioned the perfect position of its country in the incoming and outgoing ports of Internet of other countries for further development of the ICT sector, stating that: “With the help of these special conditions in the infrastructure sector of communication and information technology, we have managed to achieve good progresses, and wish to share these experiences with our neighboring countries, including Iran.
