Internet capacity was 4 STM1 links in August 2005 and it was provided through the marine cable path of Jask Fojeireh. The national Internet network depended on this path only and it had affected its security. The national Internet net work would be disturbed by cutting that cable path. So the number of international gate ways increased at the same time of raising the national Internet capacity.
Now the share of this path for providing national internet is less than 30%.The cutting of this path has been occurred often in January and was so troublesome. Our country is connecting to the international fiber optic networks through 9 international ports currently.
The international port has defined as the points for providing the possibility for connecting the national infrastructure fiber optic networks to the international networks for providing, establishing, transferring and traffic exchanging for sound, image, data and Internet.
9 international ports of our country are:
Cable marine Jask - Fojeireh in the south of our country that is connected to the UAE and provides the connection of infrastructure fiber optic network to several international cables.
Also in Gonaveh center, the infrastructure network is connected to the marine cables through Iran-Kuwait marine cable.
In the West of the Country it is provided the connection of infrastructure fiber optic network to international cables in the border of Iran - Turkey.
In the northern borders a cable path in Iran - Azerbaijan border is connected the national infrastructure network to Azerbaijan cable network and then to Russia and Georgia from there.
Also in this side of Iran -Turkmenistan border, our national optic fiber network is connected to Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and China as well as Armenia fiber optic network in the Armenia border.
It's mentioned the connection of Baku and Nakhjavan has been established by the international cable in Nakhjavan border.
In the East side of the country we are connecting to Afghanistan through the international cable in Afghanistan border.
By signing "Falcon Protocol" the international connection point was created in Bandarabbas for the first time in our country and Chabahar connection point will be launched at the near future.
By the way our national Internet capacity will be connected to all of global main communication points through FLAG network directly.
This network forms as a complete ring which connects three continents Africa, Asia and Europe and also our country to the international highways. It's mentioned the infrastructure has the readiness for increasing the Internet capacity up to 150 STM1 links. Till November 2009 the national Internet capacity was 104 STM1 links that has been provided through the international ports in the North, South and West of the country.
