ICT Minister Meets Counterpart in Finland
In the meeting between Dr. Vaezi and the Minister of Transport and Communications of Finland, the parties announced their readiness for expanding bilateral cooperation in the field of communication and information technology, emphasizing their support for collaborations between the private sectors of the two countries.

According to a report by the Public Relation department, Mahmoud Vaezi, the Iranian Communication Minister, in Finland leading a delegation of public and private sector representatives from the field of ICT, has met with Anne Berner, the Minister of Transport and Communications, discussing topics of mutual interest.

In this meeting, Vaezi presented a report of the role and position of ICT in the country’s development as a fundamental government policy, stating that: “Governments also have a decisive role to play in supporting the private sector and providing finance and banking services.”

He also referred to the fact that utilizing the banking resources of Finland for provision of credit lines to major companies like Nokia Corporation in regard to joint investment and joint production in Iran can be truly effective, stating that: “Iran is prepared to make the most of this cooperation; of course, it has to be studied first by the government of Finland, and they will inform us of their decision.”

The meeting continued and Berner, the Finnish Minister of Transportation and Communication underscored that: “We, as government representatives, are prepared to offer the required cooperation in all communication areas, including e-government, and network security which plays a major and essential role in any country.”

She added that: “We also announce our readiness for joint cooperation in regard to digitalizing more services for the people of both countries in the areas of healthcare, transportation, education, and creating new opportunities for exchanging data, plus mobile services.”

She further asserted that: “Today data is considered part of the wealth and currency capital of the countries of the world, and they should be shared and exchanged according to the countries interests and considerations.”

The Finnish Transport and Communication Minister reported of the readiness of Finland on data exchange with Iran and said: “In consideration of the imminent visit of the President of Finland to Iran, we are interested in increasing the role and extent of activities of Finnish companies in the ICT sector of Iran, including infrastructure development.”

She also asked for educational and academic cooperation between the two countries in the areas of innovation, new communication technologies, and start-up companies which have an essential and considerable role to play in business and job market of the ICT sector.”

It is mentionable that in this meeting, private sector companies, including mobile operators present, offered a report of the accomplishments and achievements of their country, highlighting joint cooperation opportunities regarding technology transfer and joint investments.
