Mahmoud Vaezi, the Iranian Communication and Information Technology Minister and Nikolay Nikiforov, the Russian Minister for Communication and Mass Media emphasized on the necessity of expanding cooperation in the fields of Information distribution and sharing, and also starting the implementation of previous agreements related to the area of responsibility of both ministries.
According to Ministry’s Public Relation, in this meeting of the Iranian and Russian delegations, held on Wednesday in Moscow, Dr. Vaezi, the Iranian Communication Minister recounted some of the outcomes and achievements of the previous meetings with Nikolay Nikiforov, the Minister of Communication and Mass Media of the Russian Republic, expressing that: “Holding rounds of negotiations and discussions between the two ministers during the past three years, and the agreements achieved in various sectors under their jurisdiction have resulted in positive and constructive outcomes.”
The ICT Minister emphasized on the continuation of these negotiations, adding that: “Iran is prepared for cooperation with the Russian party for implementation of the previous agreements and further collaboration in the fields of ICT and Space Communications.”
The Iranian co-Chairman of the Joint Economic Cooperation Commission, while stating the policies of the I.R. of Iran in utilization of Space, expressed that: “Iran is ready for cooperation in manufacturing and launching telecommunication and distance measurement satellites, and we would like to see a joint meeting of the officials in charge of space programs in Iran and Russia, to sign cooperation agreements for space sector collaboration and joint efforts in this area.”
In this meeting, the parties also referred to the widespread impacts of communication and information technology in various areas of the society, the necessity of serious consideration and joint cooperation in areas such as the activities of the virtual environment, internet, social media, e-government, network security, e-learning and virtual learning in schools and the related equipment, development of fiber-optics, working relations between Iranian and Russian social networks, research and development, establishment of joint offices, and cooperation for achieving independence and self-sufficiency in the ICT sector, and were able to come to very important agreements.
Additionally, in this meeting, four committees were formed by the officials and experts of both parties to study and follow-up on the previous agreements in regard to internet activities, network security, space sector cooperation, and research and development, in order to take a specialized look at negotiations and agreements, and come to a common understanding.
Nikiforov, the Russian Minister of Communication and Mass Media also stated in this meeting that: “Bilateral cooperation in the fields of communication and internet, and also utilizing the capabilities of Russia in virtual space, including the Facebook-like social network called ‘Contact’ which offers its services in 80 languages, one of them being Farsi, can be further developed through collaboration and careful planning.”
