Iran, South Korea Welcome ICT Cooperation
CEO of KT Corporation, who is accompanying the Korean President on his trip to Iran, met with the Vise-Minister of ICT in International Affairs, and both parties welcomed further development of relations, especially in ICT sector.

 According to Public Relation Center of the Ministry, Mr. Eng. Mohtashami referred to the long history of bilateral relations between Iran and Korea in this meeting, emphasizing on the importance of expanding overall cooperation, especially in the communication and information technology sector.

He included that: “The specialized cooperation of the two countries in the field of ICT has mostly been in the lower layers, but the huge potentials and capacities of both nations requires us to work on the expansion of this cooperation within the framework of strategic plans, including joint investment for development of the IT and ICT industry.”

He continued by referring to Korea’s exemplary experience in development and expansion of ICT networks, asking for increasing cooperation between the two countries, especially in regard to providing broad-band services, add-value services in mobile platform, utilizing young human resources capacities in ICT development, job-creation and overall cooperation in research and development.

Dr. Chang-Gyu Hwang, CEO of KT Corporation (Korean Telecom), also referred to Korea’s progress in ICT fields, especially in regard to high-speed internet and provisions of 5G mobile services, welcomed the developing cooperation between Iran and Korea in the fields of ICT.

He mentioned his knowledge of Iran’s communication infrastructure, saying: “The basis of the collaborations between the two countries should be defined based on each other’s needs, especially job-creation for the young generation and within the framework of ‘Future Businesses’ of the ICT sector.

Chang-Gyu Hwang also referred to the wealth of Iran’s natural resources, emphasizing on programming for combination and convergence of natural resources and ICT technology, adding that: “For example, we can mention saving in natural resources consumption in smart cities through ICT technology.”

The head of Korea’s Telecom concluded that: “The details of these ideas must be pursued in the meetings of experts, and the Korean side is prepared for strategic cooperation with Iran, especially with the private sector and Iranian operators.”
