Iran, Azerbaijan Railroad Project Inaugurated
Dr. Mahmoud Vaezi, the Minister of Communication and Information Technology, and the co-chairman of the Joint Economic Cooperation Commission, is leading a high ranking delegation of Iranian officials for a two day visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan, on 20th of April.

 ICT Ministry’s Public Relation reports that during this trip, on Wednesday, April 20, and in presence of Dr. Vaezi and Azeri officials, the project for connecting Iran’s rail system to Azerbaijan Republic (Astara Project) and also construction of a railway bridge on the Aras River (Astara Bridge) will be inaugurated.

By establishing the North-South corridor, the northern countries of the Caspian Sea can access Persian Gulf via Iran’s route, and on the other hand, Iran also will gain access to those countries and Europe with the help of this corridor.

Dr. Vaezi, having been officially invited to Azerbaijan by his Azeri counterpart, is going to attend meetings with Azeri officials on Thursday April 21, to follow up on the decisions and topics raised during Mr. Aliyev’s visit to Iran.
