Vaezi Talks to Azerbaijani Counterpart on the Phone
Following the forgoing agreements and the outcomes of Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Tehran, and also because of the recent escalation of the military conflict in Karabakh region between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Dr. Vaezi held a phone conversation with his Azeri counterpart.

According to the Ministry’s PR department, with the objective of pursuing the ongoing economic cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan, and discussing the agreements and the outcomes of Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Tehran last month, also following the recent escalation of the military conflict in mountainous Karabakh region between Armenian and Azerbaijani armed forces, Dr. Vaezi, the Iranian Communication Minister and the head of the Joint Economic Commission, held a phone conversation with his Azeri counterpart, Shahin Mustafayev, the Azerbaijani head of the Joint Economic Commission.

In this phone conversation, Dr. Vaezi while inviting both parties to self-restraint, and explaining the emphasis of the I.R. of Iran on the necessity of safeguarding peace and stability in this crisis-laden regional environment, especially between its neighbors, and the negative impact of such entanglements on the progress and development of countries, expressed that: “The I.R. of Iran is fully prepared to mobilize all its capacities and potentials to alleviate the crisis and the establishment of cease-fire, and finding a solution to the conflicts within the framework of bilateral and international talks and negotiations, requesting prompt action to finish the conflicts.”

The Minister of Communication and Information Technology also stated in this phone conversation that: “Without doubt, the continuation of the conflicts, in addition to the negative impact of this crisis at the borders of our country, weakens the country’s opportunities for economic development, deteriorating the economic structure of all the involved countries, eventually resulting at losses and damages to the whole people of the region, and the interests and welfare of nations.”

Shahin Mustafayev, the Azeri Communication Minister, extended his appreciations and gratitude in this phone conversation for the ceaseless efforts of Iran, in trying to help alleviate the blaze of fighting and bloodshed, finding a solution for this crisis; thanked the fundamental positions of Iran, and stated that: “Azerbaijan wishes to put a stop to these conflicts as quickly as possible, and in this very direction, our President has declared a one-sided ceasefire.”
