The Minister of Information and Communications Technology Seyed Sattar Hashemi met on Thursday Governor General of the Iraqi Province of Karbala as well as the Custodian of the Imam Hussein (PBUH) Mausoleum in the provincial capital Karbala.
The meetings took place on the second and final leg
of the Iranian minister’s visit to neighboring Iraq to discuss expansion of
bilateral ties as well as reviewing the measures to provide enhanced services
during Arbaeen mourning processions in early August.
Hashemi emphasized expanding bilateral cooperation to improve
communication and telecommunications services for Arbaeen pilgrims and to share
Iran's expertise in communications and advanced technologies.
Upon arrival to the city, the ICT Minister paid his respects at the
shrine of Imam Hussein and then held talks with Sheikh Abdul Mahdi
al-Karbalaei, the custodian of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein.
Both sides stressed providing high-quality services to Arbaeen pilgrims
and agreed on strengthening cooperation to develop communication
infrastructure, enhance digital services, and make greater use of modern
technologies in serving pilgrims.
Hashemi also met Seyed Nasif Jassim Al-Khattabi, the Governor General of
Karbala Province.
During the meeting, the ICT Minister thanked the Iraqi government and
people for their dignified hosting of the funeral procession of the martyred
leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei in Iraq,
describing it as a reflection of the deep bonds between the two nations.
“Iran is prepared to share its knowledge, experience, and achievements in
communications, information technology, and emerging technologies with Iraq,
particularly its experience in maintaining the resilience and stability of
communication networks during the Ramadan War,” he said.
The Minister also expressed his appreciation in advance for the efforts
and planning undertaken by the Governor General of Karbala and provincial
officials to organize the Arbaeen pilgrimage.
He emphasized the need for continued coordination between Iran and Iraq
to improve the quality and reliability of communication and telecommunications
services for Imam Hussein's pilgrims.
