The Minister of Information and Communications Technology has expressed Iran’s readiness to expand cooperation in the fields of the digital economy, digital education, and cybersecurity with Iraq.
He made the statement in a meeting on Thursday with the Head
of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq Sheikh Hammam
Hamoudi, during which Hashemi stressed the depth of the historical, cultural,
and religious ties between the two neighboring countries.
He also expressed the gratitude to the Iraqi government and
people for the historic funeral of the martyred leader of the Islamic
Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
“The massive and epic participation of the Iraqi people in
this ceremony demonstrated that there is a deep, longstanding, and unbreakable
bond between the two nations in religious, social, cultural, and political
dimensions,” the ICT Minister stated.
Tehran, Baghdad Cooperate in Arbaeen
The ICT Minster referred to his meeting with Iraqi Minister
of Communications, and said that announced that the two countries had agreed to
expand cooperation in the field of communications.
“The main focus of these negotiations was expanding
cooperation to ensure adequate communications coverage and provide better
services for Arbaeen pilgrims. We hope the results will benefit both
countries.”
Hashemi stated that Iran possesses significant capabilities
in the field of the digital economy.
“The extensive activities of knowledge-based companies and
stakeholders in the communications and information technology sector provide a
valuable opportunity to define joint projects and expand technological
cooperation between Iran and Iraq.”
Referring to the continuous cyber threats against Iran’s
infrastructure, he added, “Iran is constantly confronted with cyberattacks by
its enemies and has gained valuable experience in enhancing resilience and
protecting critical infrastructure, which can serve as a basis for joint
cooperation between the two countries.”
Iran, Iraq Solidarity
In the meeting, Sheikh Hammam Hamoudi, Head of the Supreme
Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq, offered his condolences on the
martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, describing it a great loss.
“Although his martyrdom was a major tragedy, it also brought
many blessings and positive outcomes, including the strengthening of unity and
solidarity between the peoples of Iran and Iraq.”
He welcomed the expansion of bilateral cooperation and
emphasized benefiting from Iran’s experience in the fields of communications,
artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies, describing such cooperation
as a foundation for developing the strategic relationship between Tehran and
Baghdad.
