Tehran, Baghdad discuss science, technology cooperation
Iranian Minister of Information and Communications Technology Seyed Sattar Hashemi and the Iraqi Minister of Health and Acting Minister of Higher Education Abdul-Hussein al-Mousawi met on Wednesday in Baghdad, reviewing ways of expansion of bilateral ties in the fields of science and technology.

Hashemi expressed Iran’s readiness to transfer experience in the fields of e-health, space technology, and communications research, and described the expansion of scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries as a foundation for strengthening the strategic relationship between Tehran and Baghdad.

Appreciating the warm hospitality granted to the Iranian delegation, he also thanked the people of Iraq for holding a magnificent funeral procession for the martyred leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and for their historic and heroic participation in the mourning rites.

“The support of the Iraqi people and government in organizing this ceremony reflected the deep historical, cultural, and religious ties between the two nations. This magnificent turnout demonstrated that the relationship between the two countries extends beyond political ties and is rooted in shared history and close bonds between their peoples,” Hashemi added.

The ICT Minister noted, “History has always shown that truth will prevail over falsehood. As our martyred commander and leader repeatedly emphasized the miscalculations of our enemies, today we are witnessing the realization of this reality in various arenas.”

Referring to the Iranian nation’s steadfastness in the face of the United States and the Zionist regime and the enduring scenes created by the people, Hashemi added: “We are certain that the enemies of the region will inevitably be forced to leave it, and that lasting peace and stability can only be achieved through interaction and cooperation among the countries and peoples of the region.”

ICT Cooperation for Arbaeen

Elaborating on his meeting with Iraq’s Minister of Communications Mustafa Jabbar Sanad, he said that the two sides had agreed to expand cooperation aimed at holding the Arbaeen mourning ceremonies in a more magnificent manner.

“Both sides emphasized expanding cooperation to provide better services to pilgrims and to strengthen joint coordination in the fields of communications and information technology.”

Space Cooperation Proposal

Hashemi described the capacities and achievements of Iran in the space industry, saying “Over recent years, Iran has made valuable progress in the fields of communications and remote sensing satellites and is prepared to further develop these capabilities through joint cooperation with Iraq.”

He termed the establishment of a joint research and development center, cooperation in satellite imaging, development of ground stations, and expansion of cooperation in the space industry between the two countries as important areas for collaboration.

Hashemi also referred to the capabilities of Iran’s ICT Research Institute and said, “With approximately 400 faculty members, this institute can become one of the main pillars of research and technological cooperation between Iran and Iraq.”

Iran’s E-Health Experience

In the meeting with the Iraqi Acting Minister of Higher Education who is also the Minister of Health, Hashemi described the development of Iran’s electronic health infrastructure as another capability that could be transferred to Iraq.

“Today, more than 50 percent of medical prescriptions in the country are issued electronically. This has played an important role in managing medicine consumption, targeted distribution of scarce medicines, increasing transparency, and improving the management of healthcare resources.”

The ICT Minister added that Iran is proud to place its experience in this field at the disposal of the Iraqi government and people and to expand joint cooperation in digital health.

HE reaffirmed Iran’s readiness to expand scientific, research, and technological interactions and invited Abdul-Hussein al-Mousawi to pay an official visit to Iran.
