The Minister of Information and Communication Technology Seyed Sattar Hashemi has called for upholding Iran’s legitimate rights at the ongoing Council meeting of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Switzerland.

The annual meeting of the ITU Council, the governing body of the UN specialized agency of telecommunications, convenes on 28 April-8 May 2026 in Geneva, Switzerland.

“Iran was targeted by the Israeli and US aggressors. In addition to the martyrdom of a officials and civilians, including students of Minab School, significant damage was inflicted on Iran’s communication infrastructure” Hashemi stated.

“It is an issue contrary to the principles and rules of international law and requires consideration by specialized forums,” Iran’s ICT Minister told the Cuban Minister of Communications Mayra Arevich Marin and Turkiye’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu.

Marin and Uraloglu for their part condemned the US-Israeli attacks against Iran’s civilian infrastructure including the ICT facilities and centers.
