Minister of Information and Communications Technology Seyed Sattar Hashemi has pledged obedience to the new leader, Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei, saying his leadership will herald a new era of dignity and authority for the Iranian nation.
Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei
succeeded his father, late Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, on Monday after he was
killed in US–Israeli air raids on 28 February.
The decision was announced by
Iran’s Assembly of Experts, an 88-member body of senior clerics responsible for
selecting the leader. In a statement broadcast on state
television, the assembly said Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei was appointed by a
decisive vote during an extraordinary session held late Sunday.
ICT Minister in a letter addressed
to the new leader congratulated him on being elected as the third leader of the
Islamic Republic of Iran.
“We firmly believe that under your
prudent leadership, by relying on God Almighty and on the abundant scientific
and specialized capabilities and capacities of the brave people of Iran,
effective steps will be taken on the path of sustainable development and
promotion of the satisfaction and welfare of our noble people, and that a new
chapter of national authority and dignity will begin.”
Hashemi also declared the ICT
Ministry’s complete readiness to develop and strengthen the scientific and
technological movement of the country, especially in the fields of
knowledge-based economy and in the field of information and communication
technology to achieve the lofty goals of the country.
