Iranian Minister of Information and Communications Technology Seyed Sattar Hashemi met with India’s Union Minister of State for Electronics & IT Jitin Prasada in New Delhi on Wednesday during which they exchanged views on expansion of bilateral cooperation in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity and digital economy.
“Relying on its strong
human and scientific infrastructure, Iran has taken important steps in the
development of new technologies,” Hashemi said.
“Considering the
historical background and current capacities of Iran and India, technological
cooperation between the two countries can lead to the formation of a digital
powerhouse in the region,” he added.
Iran’s ICT minister is
visiting New Delhi to participate in the India AI Impact Summit 2026 which is
convened under the theme From Vision to Action: India Leading the AI Impact
Movement! on February 16-20.
Development of large language
models
Hashemi termed the
development of private sector interaction between the two countries as one of
the main priorities.
“We are interested in
starting cooperation in areas such as the development of large language models
(LLM), the creation of joint artificial intelligence platforms in the
agricultural sector, and the establishment of incubation centers for the
application of artificial intelligence in various fields.”
Iran’s ICT minister also
emphasized the importance of securing critical data infrastructures in the
coming years, and announced Iran's readiness to exchange experiences in the
field of cyber threats, combating emerging malware, and strengthening the security
of financial infrastructures.
He referred to India's hosting
of BRICS events and stated Iran's readiness for close cooperation with India in
the framework of this intergovernmental organization comprising ten countries:
Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, South Africa,
and the United Arab Emirate.
He also proposed establishing
a joint fund to support Iranian and Indian startups, holding joint
technological events and talent exchange programs, allocating special zones in
the technology parks of the two countries, and facilitating the issuance of technology
visas for IT professionals.
India's readiness to share
experience
India’s Union Minister of
State for Electronics & IT welcomed the visit of Iranian ICT minister and expressed
his country’s readiness to share experience in the fields of artificial
intelligence, cybersecurity, and training of specialized human resources with
Iran and to begin cooperation in joint technology projects.
“Establishment of joint incubation
centers and expert exchange programs can increase the acceleration of
technological development in both countries and help strengthen digital
infrastructure and improve data security,” Prasada added.
Earlier, Iran’ ICT
minister delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the India AI Impact
Summit 2026 and visited its exhibition.
He is scheduled to meet
with high-ranking Indian and visiting officials during his stay.
