ICT minister launches 425 projects in Hormozgan Prov. worth $40m
Iran's Minister of Information and Communication Technology Seyed Sattar Hashemi on Monday put into operation 425 projects in the southern province of Hormozgan with a total investment value of US dollars 40 million.

The ICT projects were inaugurated during Hashemi’s visit to the provincial capital Bandar Abbas as representative of the Government to mark the 47th anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran.

Local provincial officials including Governor General of Hormozgan Province Mohammad Ashouri Taziani, provincial members of the parliament, and ICT deputy ministers were present in the ceremony in which Hashemi opened the infrastructure and development projects.

The projects were implemented in line with the government’s communication and digital infrastructure development programs and include projects for upgrading communications infrastructure, increasing network stability, and improving the quality of access of the people of the province to communications and information technology services.

 

Rural communications and mobile coverage

In the section of rural communications development, 86 projects were implemented which include providing communications and internet to 84 villages through the installation and commissioning of 83 rural mobile base stations, as well as the development and increase of mobile and internet coverage of Hormuz Island by creating 3 new stations.

These plans were put into operation with the aim of reducing the digital divide and raising the level of access of villages and less-developed areas of the province to communications services.

 

Landline network and fiber optics

In the field of the fixed network, the Telecommunication Company of Iran put into operation 46 projects including the development of switching, transmission, data centers, implementation of fiber optics (FTTX), facilities, buildings, and power.

These projects play an effective role in increasing network capacity, improving the quality of landline communications services, and expanding access to high-speed internet across the province.

 

Intercity communications infrastructure

Also the Telecommunication Infrastructure Company implemented 6 projects undertaking the purchase of equipment and services for phase two of the development of the national IP network and 25 provinces, construction of the Jask and Jegdan fiber-optic stations, trenching of the islands’ submarine cable, and updating the intercity and international switching network.

These projects were implemented with the aim of increasing the stability, resilience, and security of the province’s communications networks.

 

5G mobile network

In the mobile communications sector, the Mobile Telecommunications Company of Iran, by implementing 115 projects took action to launch, upgrade technology, and replace towers of urban mobile base stations in the province. Also one 5G mobile base station in the city of Bandar Abbas was put into operation.

The Irancell Mobile Company by implementing 148 projects in the field of launching new stations, upgrading technology, increasing capacity, and expanding coverage of the province’s urban mobile network, and inaugurated one 5G mobile site in Bandar Abbas.

 

Fiber optics for homes and businesses

In the field of fiber-optic development, Pishgaman Communication Development Company put into operation 3 projects connecting homes and businesses to the fiber-optic network in the cities of Minab, Bandar Lengeh, and Bandar Kong.

Also, RighTel Communication Services Company, by implementing 21 projects took action to launch and upgrade the technology of 21 urban mobile base stations in the province.

These projects are considered an effective step on the path of developing the communications infrastructure of Hormozgan Province, upgrading service quality, increasing network resilience, strengthening the digital economy, and realizing the goals of the Government in the field of balanced regional development.
