Iran’s Minister of Information and Communication Technology Syed Sattar Hashemi said that the country’s Geocoded National Address File (GNAF) dataset has developed significantly.
“It promises a smart future for the country's infrastructure,”
he said at the ceremony to mark the World Post Day on Thursday.
Hashemi also said the smart sorting of parcels is the result of
effective interaction between the private sector and knowledge-based companies.
“This is an important step in the development of postal
technologies in the country,” the minister added.
He said the ICT Ministry is ready to support the private sector, because it believes
that mutual cooperation can increase people's satisfaction.
Hashemi appreciated the unremitting efforts of the National
Post Company of Iran to complete the GNAF dataset with cooperation of the
Judiciary saying the progress of the government in certain location-based
information indicators is “several hundred percent” which he termed a “a
welcome phenomena”.
“If one talks of smart government and data-based governance,
we shall implement the three indicators of assigning a national ID code to
individuals, assigning a single code to land or postal code, and finally to the
identity of businesses.”
Hashemi concluded by stressing the role of the post in the
digital age.
“Although the emergence of the telegraph and electronic mail
at times created the impression that the role of the post would decrease, today
the post, as one of the enabling pillars of the digital economy, has a key
position in the country's modern service chain."
The ceremony was opened by First Vice President Mohammadreza
Aref who in his key note speech urged the National Post Company of Iran to employ
the latest advanced technologies including artificial intelligence.
