The Iranian Minister of Information and Communication Technology Seyed Sattar Hashemi said on Saturday that the space ICT industry will further develop in order to provide better services to the people.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the World Space Week in
Tehran, he announced the first successful signals relay of the Nahid 2 telecoms
satellite, stressing that government’s approach in developing the space
industry and launching satellites is to provide quality services to Iranians.
The ICT minister referred to the construction of the Chabahar
launch site and added, "This base which is being prepared with extensive
capacities has 93 percent progress in the first phase and the preparation of
the base's launcher will be completed soon.”
Hashemi emphasized that Iran's measures to station
satellites in the 500-kilometer orbit and develop geostationary satellites
demonstrate the country's seriousness in scientific and technological progress.
“For the first time, the telecommunications signals relay of
the Nahid 2 satellite was received at the Qeshm Station, which indicates that
all its subsystems have been successfully evaluated and tested. For the first
time, messages and calls were received through this satellite in the K-band.”
He also announced the scheduled operation of the Salmas and Chenaran
satellite stations before the yearend (March 20).
“People’s satisfaction and providing them with better telecoms
services is the main criterion for implementing the country’s space projects,”
the ICT minister said.
Hashemi emphasized the importance of teamwork in the space
industry, saying, “Iran’s space industry is a successful example of teamwork
and cooperation, and this model should be a model for the country’s development
in other areas as well.”
He lauded the researchers and the staff in Iran’s space industry expressing
the hope that the achievements in this field will create a bright future for the
country.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, members of the national
team of the Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad of Iran were honored.
