Iran’s Minister of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Seyed Sattar Hashemi inaugurated 61 projects in the South Khorasan Province amounting to an investment of dollars 8.8 million on Saturday.
The projects
were put into operation in a ceremony at the conclusion of the minister’s provincial
visit during which he met with local officials as well as directors of ICT
companies.
In a visit
to the University of Birjand, Hashemi emphasized the unique scientific,
cultural, and economic capacities of South Khorasan, and introduced the communication
and educational justice, the use of artificial intelligence, content
development, and smart mining as key axes of the ICT Ministry’s programs.
He praised
the role of academics as the leaders of progress and said, “The academics are
the pioneers of the development of the digital economy and communication in
South Khorasan.”
The projects
launched by the ICT minister included connection of 11 villages through 7 new
mobile phone stations and upgrading of the existing stations.
The Telecommunications
Company of Iran, by implementing 17 projects, installed and launched 45 optical
cables in 3 cities and 29 villages, installed 39 CWDM radio terminals in 32
villages, developed a fiber optic network by installing 16 OLT devices, implemented
83 kilometers of fiber optic in 10 cities and 2 villages, and developed data
ports and power supply in 14 cities and 24 villages.
The Teleommunication
Infrastructure Company, by implementing 3 projects, operationalized the third
phase of developing and improving the stability of the national IP-based
transmission network and updated the international switching network using
local and international equipment.
In the
mobile phone sector, the Mobile Communications of Iran Company, with 19
projects and, constructed and launched 18 new fourth and fifth generation
stations and replaced and upgraded the equipment of 13 existing stations at the
provincial level.
Also
Irancell MTN Company, with 13 projects, constructed and launched one fifth
generation station in the provincial capital Birjand and put 12 fourth
generation stations into operation.
These
projects were inaugurated to develop the communication infrastructure, improve the
quality of services, and expand access to high-speed internet for the people of
South Khorasan Province, and are considered an important step towards realizing
the development plans of the 14th government in the digital field.
