Dr. Mahmoud Vaezi, the Iranian ICT Minister, currently in Moscow to attend the 12th session of Iran-Russia Joint Economic Commission, met with Igor Shuvalov, the First Deputy Prime Minister of Russian Federation, in continuation of his negotiations with high ranking administrative staff of the Russian government.
The ICT’s Public Relation reports that, in this meeting, the First Deputy Prime Minister of Russian Federation, emphasized on the importance of holding the Joint Economic Commission, underscoring the determination of the Russian side in holding a different and significant session, with an operational approach.
He expressed that: “The working agenda of relations with Russia in constantly being pursued by the Russian President through instructions and guidance offered by him intended for developing relations.”
Igor Shuvalov deemed the cancellation of the economic sanctions against Iran as a positive issue, adding that: “This topic is important for development of bilateral relations between two countries.”
He expressed that: “We hope that through the efforts of our countries, the level of bilateral economic-commercial relations of both parties will grow and develop based on the resolve and expectations of the leaders of both countries, corresponding with the political and regional relations.”
The First Deputy Prime Minister of Russian Federation asserted that: “Without doubt, Russia is considering the establishment of long-term relations with Iran.”
Also, in this meeting, Mahmoud Vaezi referred to the widespread relations between the two countries in various aspects, expressing that: “The relations between Iran and Russia have entered a new phase and a bright future is on the horizon.”
He further defined various aspects of Iran-Russia relations, describing the short-term, mid-term, and long-term relations on the agenda, including that: “The I.R. of Iran is quite ready for achieving the desired objectives at all three stages.”
Vaezi emphasized the end of sanctions as a new stage in bilateral relations, saying: “The determination of high-ranking Iranian officials in developing relations with Russia, in post-sanctions era, is commendable.”
In this meeting, the parties studied the existing opportunities and the obstacles in the expansion of economic and commercial cooperation between two countries, also discussed topics such as bilateral cooperation, facilitating visa issuance for the citizens of both countries, lowering tariffs, developing transportation, solving banking problems, creating the required background for implementation of major projects, and the investment of major Russian companies.”
Moreover, the topic of the presence of Russia’s President in the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) 2015 in Tehran was also discussed.
Vaezi’s agenda on this trip will include the signing of an MOU regarding the 12th session of the Joint Economic Commission, and also further meetings and discussions with high-ranking Russian officials in the fields of industry, health-care, and agriculture.
