ICT Minister: Iran’s fiber-optic cable plant starts production in Venezuela
20K daily cyber attacks were prevented during 12-day Israel-US aggression
Iran’s Minister of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Seyed Sattar Hashemi said the fiber-optic cable factory launched by Iran in Venezuela has started production.
Speaking at a meeting with members of select committees of the Parliament, he said the agreement to launch the optical fiber plant was signed during his visit to Venezuela last November.
“Our country's knowledge-based companies have also become active in Venezuelan communication infrastructure," Hashemi added.
The new plant, named Venefibra, is part of the bilateral cooperation between Venezuela and Iran.
It is launched in the state of La Guaira, 30 kilometers north of capital Caracas and home to the country's gateway Simón Bolívar Airport aiming to strengthen telecommunications infrastructure and diversify the country’s economy.
The minister said that the Technology Diplomacy policy is one of the priorities of the ICT Ministry.
“In the past year, we have taken steps to export technology to the countries of the Horn of Africa, Latin America and Russia. We hope that exports in this field will increase 10 times in compliance with the national development plan’s objectives.”
Hashemi also stated that 20,000 cybeattacks were prevented during the 12-day Israel-US military aggression against Iran.
“Simultaneous with the physical warfare, we were attacked by a cyberwar. We prevented the most complex and widespread attacks while some 20,000 attacks were carried out on entry ports and systems daily,” he told the parliamentarians.
“The damage from these attacks was minimized and telephone voice services and text messages were not affected. Today we are seeking to eliminate the weaknesses in this field,” said Hashemi.
The minister urged the MPs to allocate further financial resources to so that the ICT ministry can better develop its infrastructure and technological projects.
