The Iranian Minister of Information and Communication Technology Seyed Sattar Hashemi in a meeting with the Omani Ambassador in Tehran Ibrahim bin Ahmed Almuaini negotiated new areas of cooperation in the field of communication as well as implementation of agreements between the two countries in this regard.
Hashemi referred to the friendly ties between Tehran and Muscat as the catalyst of closer mutual cooperation and said, “Despite the existing capacities to raise the level of relations and cooperation in the field of information and communication technology, further efforts are required to implement the existing agreements.”
“The capacities of the National Post Company of Iran, the Special Economic Zone and Payam Airport as subsidiaries of the Ministry of Communication are suitable platforms for developing cooperation between the two countries in the field of communications and information technology,” he added.
Iran and Oman are neighbors via the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Sea of Oman and maintain cordial relations.
Behzad Akbari, deputy minister and CEO of the Telecommunications Infrastructure Company, who was present at the meeting of the Omani envoy with the ICT minister, said Tehran and Muscat's cooperation in the field of telecommunications infrastructure is an opportunity for the development of the region's digital ecosystem.
"Oman is the hub of submarine cables in the region and considering Iran’s access to the Central Asia and Europe, we can play a role in the region and in the world together with Oman, beyond the current levels.”
Almuaini pointed out Iran's significant progress in various fields of information technology and Oman welcomes mutual cooperation in all fields, and said Muscat welcomes cooperation with Tehran especially in the field of communications and information technology.
After learning about the potential areas of cooperation between the two countries in the field of information technology and the capacities of the Iranian ICT ministry, the Omani ambassador said he will convey them to the Omani government.
